How to Grow on Pinterest in 2025

Trying to grow on Pinterest in 2025? I’ve been a Pinterest Marketing expert for 8 years, and I’ve helped clients grow and get traffic to their blogs and businesses using Pinterest. And in this guide, I’m sharing our exact strategies for Pinterest growth in 2025. No fluff, no outdated strategies, just what we think and know will work for the year ahead.

Learning how to grow on Pinterest starts with understanding how the platform has shifted. Pinterest continues to evolve, prioritizing fresh content and SEO-optimized profiles over outdated tactics. If you’ve been struggling to get traffic or engagement, chances are you need to adjust your strategy to reflect what’s currently working.

Out with the Old, Pin with the New

Pinterest presents a significant opportunity for businesses aiming for search-based traffic and engagement. Far from being just another social media platform, Pinterest operates as a visual discovery engine where users actively seek inspiration and ideas.

This year, creators and businesses need to focus on creating high-quality content that aligns with user intent. From keyword-rich pin descriptions to consistent branding and smart scheduling, growth on Pinterest now requires a more intentional approach.

That means old-school tactics like mass repinning or relying solely on group boards won’t work anymore. If you’re ready to stop guessing and start seeing real growth, this post will walk you through what’s working right now on Pinterest—and how you can take advantage of it.

Pinterest Changes

I’ve been working as a Pinterest VA, Pinterest manager and or Pinterest expert/strategist for over 8 years now. I have managed and grown multiple Pinterest accounts in various niches, and the one thing I can honestly say about Pinterest is that it has changed sooooo much over that time. What worked on Pinterest 8 years ago (or even 4 years ago) would never work now… and I definitely would not recommend those old pinning practices.

Unfortunately, with all of those Pinterest changes, growing your business on Pinterest has gotten harder.

  • Google updates and many bloggers experiencing a decrease in their traffic and income have driven lots of people to Pinterest.
  • Making money on Pinterest (basically using Pinterest to promote and drive traffic to your Stan, Etsy and Gumroad stores, LTKs, etc) has become a popular trend driving lots of people looking to make money quick to Pinterest.

And with more people moving to Pinterest daily, the influx of AI-generated images, and regular platform changes, it can be difficult to keep up with the best practices to actually see growth consistently on Pinterest.

Hopefully, this post will help change that. I want to shed light on what’s working for our clients and what we’re doing to help them keep growing in 2025. This is an honest peek behind the marketing curtain because I don’t think enough people talk honestly about what’s working (and what’s not working) in their Pinterest strategies.

Biggest Pinterest Changes in 2025

One day, your Pinterest account is thriving and doing so well — impressions are climbing, you’re getting clicks to your websites, your pins are getting saved, and then…BAM. Suddenly, your Pins are getting little to no views. Zero. Nada. Cue the frustration!

First, Pinterest got rid of ‘Idea Pins’ for certain clients while other accounts still had this feature. On the accounts that didn’t have ‘Idea Pins’, there was just one standard way of pinning. Within Pinterest, it looked like this:

You can still create idea pins, but only for ads.

Second, you can now create drafts within Pinterest that last for up to 30 days and schedule pins for one month out.

Third, you can also edit pins once they’ve been scheduled. The new style of pinning is a big improvement and gives platforms like Tailwind a run for their money.

Fourth, Pinterest introduced simplified pins sometime ago and it’s still changing how we create pins. If you want to learn more about simplified pins – Pinterest hypes them up on their blog. This is a helpful graphic from Pinterest to help you understand what the different pin types were – and what have going forward.

Long story short, ‘Idea Pins’ never really took off in the way that Pinterest hoped – and now they reverted back to the style of content that works for them.

Sixth, Pinterest (just like every other big tech platform) now has it’s own text-to-image generative AI model called Pinterest Canvas and is currently used to create more engaging backgrounds on product ads. It simply replaces the boring white background you’d typically see on a product ad which has shown to increase engagement for advertisers.

Pinterest also said it may use your uploaded content to train it’s generative AI tool, Pinterest Canvas:

And I think they actually used pin images that already exist on their platform to train the AI

According to their Terms of Service, it seems this is allowed without user consent:

“By providing any User Content on the Service, you grant us and our affiliates and service providers, and our users, a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, worldwide license to use, store, publicly perform or display, reproduce, save, modify, create derivative works, monetize, download, translate and distribute your User Content”

Seventh and final update I want to talk about today is the Pinterest ads. Pinterest introduced ads on the platform, it wasn’t so bad a couple of years back when it was first introduced, but now, there is an ever increasing ad load on the platform.

I’ve been digging into the ad load on a variety of searches in the mobile app, and the ad load is typically anywhere from 43-56% of the pins shown in search. In our opinion, this is not a good user experience. But it benefits business who are now actively promoting on Pinterest.

Those are some of the big changes we’re seeing on Pinterest in 2025. Now let’s jump into our strategies for growing on Pinterest in 2025.

How to Grow on Pinterest in 2025

Growing on Pinterest in 2025 requires a fresh approach to Pinterest marketing and a clear understanding of how the platform is evolving.

Is it still possible to grow on Pinterest? I mean with all the updates, changes and more updates coming, should you just give uo on the platform like most creators?

Short answer, YES! It is still possible to grow your business or blog with Pinterest. And, yes, the updates, changes and with the ever-increasing Pinterest user base, growing on Pinterest is now more difficult than ever.

So bloggers and businesses need to adjust their strategies, be more patient and dedicated/consistent than they were in the past.

OK, now let’s actually talk about how to grow on Pinterest in 2025.

1. Convert to a Pinterest Business Account –

First of all, if you want to grow on Pinterest in 2025 – make sure you have a business account. Converting to a Pinterest business account is the only way you can access most of these features. It’s free to convert your account to a business account or to start a new business account.

2. Leverage Pinterest’s Search Engine Capabilities-

Pinterest is a visual search engine first. To maximize visibility on Pinterest, perform keyword research for your content before you design your pins. Use the Pinterest native search while logged out of your account.

Logging out of your Pinterest account before performing any keyword research allows you to see Pinterest keyword annotations and interest words (the actual words people are using to search on Pinterest) and their volumes. See the screenshot below:

Then incorporate relevant keywords naturally into your pin titles, descriptions, and board names. This enhances discoverability through Pinterest’s search functionality.

Update old pins with better keywords and prioritize fresh, search-driven content to stay competitive.

3. Refresh Your Content & Profile –

Even if you’ve been using Pinterest for years, or you’re just starting out, we recommend an account refresh. Clean up your profile, move boards around, make new boards, and make sure that all of your board and profile descriptions are up to date.

We do this account cleanup atleast once a year for our clients.

4. Encourage Saves Not Just Clicks –

When Pinterest launched the idea for ‘Idea Pins’, the goal was for creators to create content for the Pinterest platform. They wanted the whole ‘idea’ to be on Pinterest – so that users would stay on the platform instead of going directly to read your blog or watch your video elsewhere. That’s also why they didn’t let you include a link. They wanted to keep users on Pinterest.

But it didn’t work. The update made lots of creators to abandon Pinterest and shift thier focus elsewhere. Now that they’ve scrapped idea pins, they still need a way to keep users on the platform. So, they’re rewarding creators for getting more saves on their pins.

The more saves you get – the higher your reach and consequently, the more opportunities for getting those outbound clicks.

Pinterest’s algorithm values engagement heavily, and saves tell Pinterest your content is valuable. Pinterest literally says, “When people on Pinterest save your Pins, more of your content will appear to them.

So while your main goal on Pinterest is likely to drive traffic to your website or YouTube channel/social media platform, you need to make sure that ‘Saves’ are an important part of your strategy in 2025.

Create pins that people want to save by making them useful, inspirational, or highly aesthetic. The best saves pins that give more information, without people needing to go to your website (infographics). We have also seen a good number of saves on clients with posts/pins that are actionable.

So, evaluate your content and diversify your pin design strategy. Or check out our Pin Design services and how we can help you create pins that get saved – like we do for our clients (see screenshots above).

5. Use Pinterest Trends Tool –

The Pinterest Trends Tool (free inside Pinterest) shows you what keywords and topics are rising.

Always research Pinterest Trends before creating new content so you can target topics people are actively searching for right now. So please, if you’re learning how to grow on Pinterest in 2025 – and you’re not already using Pinterest trends… start this year.

We highly recommend creating content around one Pinterest trend per month. This can be a video, blog post, or Pinterest-specific series that you create. This will be one of the fastest ways to see growth in 2025.

6. Optimize Based on Data –

Regularly check your Pinterest Analytics to see which pins are getting the most impressions, saves, and clicks. Create more of what’s working instead of guessing. Focus your energy where Pinterest is already rewarding you.

Create new pins that align with your best-performing pins. Don’t recreate the wheel, use what’s already working for your account and make improvements.

7. Divide Your Pinterest Strategy Into Two Seasons –

This our top Pinterest strategy for 2025. This is completely based on what we’ve learned from observing our clients account across multiple niches, and it’s not something we’ve seen talked about by other Pinterest experts before.

Divide Your Pinterest Strategy Into Two Seasons: Grow & Maintain

The main goal for any Pinterest marketing strategy is to grow. It’s perform better than you did the previous year. You might not always do better than you did the month before, but year-on-year growth should always go up. Otherwise, it’s probably not the platform for you.

I’ve noticed that most of our clients grow consistently from Mid-August to January. Then experience a decrease in traffic from February-July. Some experience growth from Mid-December to about June/July, and a decrease from August to November.

This movement is largely dependent on the niche or industry. So, what do you do? Break the year up into these two Pinterest seasons. Here’s what that might look like for if you notice a growth trend in your account from Mid-August to January:

Grow (August to January/February)

  • Do a profile refresh
  • Increase your pinning volume (get up 3-5x a day or 10-20 pins a day if you have the time and resources to do that)
  • Switch up your template and try out new pin designs
  • Engage on the platform (comment on other creators’ pins)
  • Follow more people

Maintain (February to July)

  • Do a profile refresh
  • Pin less frequently but focus on consistency and really use the pin designs that worked best during your ‘Grow Phase’ (2-3x a day)
  • Use Pinterest Trends to find ideas to create content around
  • Pin seasonal content far in advance
  • Repin your best content from the year
  • Study your analytics to prepare for your next growth phase

Use your analytics to determine your ‘grow phase’ and ‘maintain phase’ as this might look different for everyone depending on your niche. The goal with this strategy is to allow yourself to work less during the maintain phase – and even though you might see a decrease in your traffic, you should still be doing better than the year before because of your grow phase. It is not sustainable to want to go viral on Pinterest 365 days a year.

For some businesses, we’ve seen consistent growth between December to June. This is because Pinterest usually makes the majority of its updates towards the end of the year, that is also the time when more companies are spending money to grow on the platform. So instead of fighting this trend, we try working with it for those clients.

This isn’t the case for some of our clients – some of our clients see growth all year long. But the majority of accounts we’ve worked with tend to see a decrease after the whole holiday bubble. That’s why I said this strategy depends on your niche and the data you see in your analytics.

The most important thing to note is that Pinterest always bounces back and you’ll always have a chance to grow your account even bigger than the year before.

8. And finally, Plan for Seasonal and Event-Based Content Early

If you don’t already know, Pinterest users search for seasonal content months in advance. Start pinning holiday, event, and seasonal content at least 2–3 months ahead. Early planners are Pinterest’s biggest audience!
